todays song is by the late, great nick drake. whats perhaps most interesting about his short life was that while he was hardly considered a success to the point that none of his albums sold more than 5,000 copies after their initial releases, but nowadays it seems that most people would recognize his one of a kind voice. even more surprising is that i dont think he ever performed live, and according to wikipedia no footage of him as an adult even exists outside of still photography, which is pretty difficult for any of us to imagine in todays world where just about any electronic devices seems to have a video camera.
this is perhaps my favorite song of his. most of us heard it for the first time when it was on the insanely popular “garden state” soundtrack some years ago (thanks zach braff) but it was originally released back in 1970 as part of his “bryter layter” album and to me its just one of the nicest songs to listen to. it starts out with a nice ascending guitar riff, and then the piano comes in over the top of that and its just pure happiness for the ears. drake was an extremely talented musician, and though his life ended prematurely due to an overdose of sleeping pills (whether or not it was a suicide is still under debate), its fortunate that his music found a strong following after his passing.

this tune is exceptional. Thank you.
Nice way to get up on a Saturday –
I dig the jazz shuffle beneath the vocal.
