in honor of halloween falling on a saturday (the perfect day for a holday such as this), we are switching it up a little bit and instead of a throwback, we’re going to celebrate today with a song full of halloween imagery, “my bodys a zombie for you” by dead mans bones. special thanks to both ulia and ursula for bringing this one to my attention. yes, i have two friends whose names begin with the letter “u”, and yes, they both recommended this one to me.
the story of dead mans bones is one thats pretty much straight out a movie. academy award nominee ryan gosling (im pretty sure he was nominated for “half nelson”) and zach shields had a collection of songs that they were preparing for a zombie/horror musical (this is beginning to sound quite a bit like the vampire musical from “forgetting sarah marshall”). when they realized that the costs of putting on a musical became too high, they saved the songs and fortunately released them as an album under the name “dead mans bones”. its pretty interesting to hear about their recording process rules. no electric guitars, no more than 3 takes no matter what, etc. the songs definitely sound great for a horror musical that will hopefully one day take shape. and whats creepier than lots of little children singing in a zombie themed love song?
