bowerbirds – northern lights

heres another one thats been on the list for quite some time. bowerbirds hail from raleigh, north carolina and bring to the table a nice folk sound with just a hint of southern twang. their newest album “upper air” was released this year and received quite a bit of buzz. and they have an accordian! and the accordian isnt really apparent in todays song, but it plays a prominent role in the rest of the album which gives some of the songs less of a folky sound and more of a european sound. and thats good, because versatility is good.
what does “northern lights” make me think of, lyrics set aside? its pretty simple. it makes me think of that week up in northern michigan in august. sitting around the bonfire drinking a burr with great friends. and then remembering that theres a meteor shower going on, and going down to the lake and laying on the dock and watching it. but then when you throw in the lyrics, its actually a love song. but it still sounds like summer nights, and it getting cold out now, so we’ll just focus on that part of it.
