as we begin a new month, it seemed like it was time for another theme week. every day this week we will be bringing you a song with a chicks name in the title. not only will these songs feature a different chicks name every day, most of the names will be pretty uncommon names. kind of makes me wish i hadnt already posted two songs i love entitled sylvia and silvia already. do you think any of the names of the people in these songs have been changed to protect anyones identities? i dont either. first up is atlas sound, the solo/side project of deerhunter frontman bradford cox. while he may be too thin for anyones good, he definitely has a great ear for music.
the song is “shelia” from his latest album “logos” and i didnt much care for it the first time i heard it, but man has it grown on me since. im not quite sure what it is, but theres just something about these three chords that are repeated over and over that has been sticking with me. and i like how the chords are slowed down at parts then back to normal speed. such a simple technique that makes such a great sound. its kind of a grim song though, which i think is mostly about being with someone just for the sake of not being alone. which i think is encapsulated in the line “we’ll die alone together” repeated near the end of the track. anyway, another solid track from this musical mastermind.
