the drums

for those of you who are not into the electronic thing as much as i am, then today should be a nice reprieve for you. however, if you are not into the electronic thing or the 80s thing as much as i am, then i guess youre still out of luck today. i thought that a track from brooklyn (via florida) band the drums would be a pretty excellent way to close out this week, and i hope that you feel the same. but id like to think that i havent led you astray in the past, which i guess is open for debate. the band made a huge splash earlier this summer when they played their first show as part of the NYC popfest and have been flying high ever since. they will embark on a uk/european tour early next year.

you know how if you have a daily music blog, sometimes you hear a song and just immediately think “this is a pretty excellent friday song”? well, thats how i feel right now. i first heard “i felt stupid” a while back but just heard it again on my way home today (today being the day im writing this, not the day that youre reading it. from the opening notes, it is clear that this song could have hung with the best of ‘em in the decade of my birth. even the three drum beats that open the song scream crimped hair and roller rinks. but of course its the starry synth and the insanely catchy chorus that really throw this one over the edge of modern music that sounds like it came from times gone by (and i mean that in a really good way). [aside: this jeopardy category has been showing video clues of arenas being demolished, and its kind of tubular.] so hopefully this will brighten your friday, and if not, well, i will try harder, and you will pretend. give and take, right?
