gui boratto – no turning back

in honor of the impending new years eve, the usual friday danceapalooza is taking place a little early this week. the idea is that you will have time to add one more awesome tune to your carefully planned NYE playlist. the track (thanks to mike for this one) is by gui boratto, a brazilian dj and producer whose website features some incredibly creepy album art. i pretty much seem to love anything a brazilian dj touches for some reason. gui also utilizes a monome, a jon alexander favorite. if you are into the unassuming start with the big buildup and many ups and downs, you will likely enjoy this track. youre just sitting there trying to figure out whats going on, wondering when something big is going to happen. and then you get to the 2:02 mark, and all holy heck breaks loose, temporarily. this is maybe my favorite kind of electronic song, full of peaks and valleys with an overall really happy sound. it gives you a chance to collect yourself and then shortly thereafter rock out again. i think it would be insane for fellow brazilians the twelves to remix this one and put their extra funky spin on it.

I wasn’t sure how I felt about this one on the first listen but after something like the 15th I was definitely a fan.

[...] What Others Say: If you love electronic tunes that are full of intensity without being in your face all the time, then look no further than Gui Boratto. The Brazilian DJ/Producer has, in my mind, mastered the art of what I like to think of as subtle electronic. There’s no denying that a few minutes into this song, the beat in this one is huge, but the peaks and valleys of this track make you appreciate the highs and lows so much more. It’s kind of a twist on Jason Lee’s memorable line from Vanilla Sky — “Without the bitter, the sweet just ain’t as sweet”. Boratto really turns the heavy beat sections into a wordless chorus, repeating it over and over, and the beauty is that you just want to throw your hands in the air each and every time – We All Want Someone via dailybeatz [...]
