i first heard about caribou from my friend mike just before the 2008 pitchfork fest in chicago. i knew nothing about caribou except what my friend told me, that caribou used to be called manitoba. which brings up a hilarious wikipedia fact, that the reason dan snaith, the man behind caribou, changed names was because of the threat of a lawsuit from, wait for it, richard “handsome dick” manitoba. look it up. and then i saw caribou live and was pretty impressed.
caribou will be releasing his latest album “swim” on april 20th. one day after my birthday, and two days after the end of coachella. just another of the long list of potentially fantastic albums being released this year. we have already gotten our first taste in the single “odessa” which is available to download free direct from the artist here in exchange for your email address. not a bad deal. im really digging this song after a few listens. i like the way that the sound is half abstract and half old school funk. i know most of you heard this song last week, but here it is anyway.
I didn’t like this song when I first heard it, but it’s grown on me. Thanks for the trivia to go along with it.
