delphic – counterpoint
the third album released this year that im kind of obsessed with right now is “acolyte” by uk band delphic. special thanks to peabs for telling me about them in our pre-coachella preparation of excellent bands we need to catch. this album is an excellent example of pitchfork completely missing the mark. i mean, the production on this album alone is worth the 5.0 rating, without even taking the songs into account. in other words, this album takes on a whole new life when listened to with headphones. nice job being terrible, pitchfork. i, for one, would recommend this album to anyone who enjoys friendly fires or cut copy or having fun. im hoping that the low pitchfork rating will turn people off to them so that we will have a clear path to the front of their crowd for their coachella performance, because i think its going to be a good one, perhaps reminiscent of last years legendary 12:30 PM friendly fires set on the hottest day of the whole damn year. we almost passed out in our dance storm, but it was oh so worth it.
the song that i seem to find myself always listening to from the album is “counterpoint”, which i believe is the first single released last year prior to the album. it seems to be a sort of breakup song, with a man seemingly wandering around town aimlessly, telling himself over and over that nothings wrong. the lyrics are a great contrast to the music, which is upbeat and danceable and electro-pop-y like no other. if you like any of the groups i mentioned above, i dare, nay, double doggy dare you, to not love this one.

wowowowow I love it. I especially love the fact that it’s a really long song, so it’s neverending sort of enjoyment.
PS: pitchfork’s never right anyway.
