What I’m about to do is so predictable. This is what usually happens when any one of my highly anticipated albums is released. 1. I talk about the first track we ever hear from the album. 2. I hear a second track closer to the release and talk about that. 3. I actually hear the album, like another song a whole lot, then talk about that, but feel weird about discussing 3 songs from the same album. So, with that, I bring you step 2 in my coverage of the new Caribou album Swim with “Kaili”. I feel like this one teeters a fine line between WTF and OMG! but luckily I think its made its way onto the happy side of that line. I’m a little partial to anything that will instantly grab my attention within the first 5 seconds and clearly that was the case here. There’s such an interesting combo going on here between the electronic music/beat, the falsetto vocals, and the crazy trumpet/saxamophone action in the closing minutes of the song. It’s rather embarrassing for how long this one’s been out there (streaming or otherwise) that I have only given it one half-assed listen. I can promise you that will change shortly, at which point you will get phase 3 of my coverage, as described above.
Equally grim is the lack of a Caribou/Toro Y Moi tour date in tha D. But that is always to be expected.
