Seattle’s Mike Hadreas, the man behind Perfume Genius, really has a knack for making a lot out of a little. Take “Learning”, for example, the title track from his album recently released on Matador records. The track is pretty much just piano and vocals, but its beauty is all in its simplicity. Four simple piano chords, a progression we’ve probably all heard a thousand times, but for some reason it sounds different (and better) this time. I have not given the full album a listen yet, but it is definitely on my list of albums to hit up in the near future. Even if this isn’t your cup of tea (which, for many, it may not be), let’s at least acknowledge that I don’t ALWAYS post remixes. That’s something we can all appreciate, isn’t it?
