Ok, George Lewis aka Twin Shadow, congratulations because you may have just been shortlisted for one of my top remixes of the summer, if not the year. You see, you took this straight forward rock tune, Surfer Blood‘s “Floating Vibes”, a tune I liked well enough but wasn’t fanatical about, and made me say, “sham-WOW!” And I think the best part about this remix is that the farther into it that you get, the farther away from the original you are taken. And while the song all flows together perfectly, there’s almost no conventional song structure to be found so you never really know what’s coming next. I kind of imagine this is what Surfer Blood might sound like if they were perhaps in outer space or from the future or both. The pitch-bending of the vocals is just perfect. And the last two minutes is so shoegazey that it hurts. This is an epic win for both Surfer Blood and Twin Shadow.

It really floats. Sure hope Twin Shadow paid The Police for their distinctive guitar track.
