It’s time for another edition of Hypem Hunting, where we pick whatever random word pops into our head, search for that word on the Hype Machine, and then dig through all of the search results to find a few tunes that we’ve never heard/heard of so that we can share them all with you. Last week’s word was “Blue” and you can click here to see what great tunes we found then
First up this week is a tune from White Fence. This is a band that we’ve got on our list of bands that we need to dive into because we’ve either heard a track we liked or have been told to give them a go. But, since I clearly haven’t done that, this track is fair game. It’s lo-fi and garage-rocky and there’s a pretty catchy little melody with some nice harmonies, and all of that is good enough for me.

Next we’ve got an oldie from way back in 1969. It’s “Games People Play” by King Curtis and it’s a soulful instrumental track full of juicy saxomophones, tasty trumpets and delicious slide guitar. Don’t really know anything else about this one except that it elicits fantastic, uplifting feelings upon listening. Apparently the name of the album that features this song is Instant Groove, which seems appropriate.

6pm is a Spanish electronic duo that’s been around since 2003 and will be releasing their sophomore album some time in 2011. In the meantime, they’ve released an EP entitled Tape Worms, and “Letters Play” is one of the tracks from that EP. It’s glitchy as hell and just gets better and better as the tune goes on and really makes me want to see what the rest of this EP is all about. And in fact, I just found it all streaming, so I’ll be giving this one a go as soon as I’m done with this.
And last but certainly not least, let’s get a little retro with London band Detachments. Don’t know what else to say about this one other than that it is 150% new wave goodness and would have been a perfect fit for Luna Saturday nights, that is, before Luna stopped playing good music to cater to the masses. Sad face.
