Hey there, it’s me again. I’ve decided that instead of using this as a sort of bonus feature, it’s going to become the main event. Because, let’s be real here, this always features 4 or 5 songs, and that should be more than enough to keep you occupied until tomorrow. Plus, I’m going on vacation next week and need to stockpile posts, so it’s a totally selfish move too. But whatever, I’m sure nobody cares, because you’re still getting tons of musical goodness from these fingers to your ears every single day, so deal wit it. This week’s theme is “look”. I don’t know why I picked that word, but I did. So, as usual, I searched for that on The Hype Machine and here are some of my favorite tunes that turned up.
I’d never heard this song, but apparently I should have because it’s already been posted by over 30 other blogs. So, you’ve probably heard it but if you haven’t like myself then we both are not that good at keeping up with musical trends. Anyway, this beautiful and slightly psychedelic/slightly funky slow jam is by Florida’s David Levesque who goes by the name Levek. And his day job is a bus driver, which is awesome. Diggin it.

This week’s “old song of the week” comes to us from Grammy winning soul singer Irma Thomas. It’s the title track of her 1966 album “Take A Look” and if whoever she’s singing this tune to didn’t get the hint, he’s pretty hopeless. It’s just a really nice slightly motownish tune froma lady with a really great voice whose made a whole lot of albums, and some as recently as 2008.

Here’s another slower tune but one that is not lacking in the awesome atmosphere department. Laurel Halo takes the already slowjammed “Look” by Sebastian Tellier and gives it the total chillwave (for lack of a better word) treatment and takes it from a tune with a nice, albeit slow, beat into an even slower atmospheric jam full that even has a little bit of a sexy 90s R&B flavor at times. The second half gets a little bit more playful and upbeat too, and that’s kind of cool.

Let’s close it out with some ambient electronic tunes by way of Megachoir. This tune is pretty cool and only gets more awesome as it goes along. It’s from their 2010 EP Parallel Planes which can be downloaded for free over at their bandcamp page, so check out the rest of their tunes if you’re liking this one. Seeya next week (or, tomorrow).
