Even though I’ve been posting lots of email tracks lately, since the good tunes have been abundant there, which is a sometimes rare but always good thing in my opinion (or perhaps I’m just getting better at auto deleting the stuff I know I’m not interested in?), one of the more enjoyable tunes that I stumbled upon all by my lonesome was “Secrets” by San Francisco’s Silver Swans (yo, alliteration much?), the full post of which you can view here. And I was pleasantly surprised to find an email from their press peeps sharing this remix of the track by Christopher Moll of The Postmarks that they thought I might enjoy. And as it turns out, this was pretty much 137% right up my alley. Despite the slightly minimalist nature of the original version of this tune, there’s still a certain brightness to it, especially as you get further into the track. But this remix, oh, it’s dark and heavy and awesome. From the very opening moments when you first hear the pop and crackle to the uber slowed down beat and the quivering vocal effects, this remix is definitely a different beast than its original. It’s almost a got a bit of a Portishead vibe to it in a way (ATP 2011 what what!!!), but amidst the darkness, this melody is so pretty that there’s still a shining beam of light that makes its way through. Yeah, this is the best.
