Is anyone else the most excited for the eventually upcoming new album from Solar Bears? We first heard the stunning “Alpha People” back in January and were surprised with another taste in the form of the appropriately named “Cosmic Runner” and all I want is more. This one’s vocals-free and a lot more in your face than “Alpha People” with some slightly darker undertones and melodies, but there is no doubt that the two tracks are of the same lineage. But even though I’m all about these tunes coming in the form of a full album, I’m pretty OK with a new Solar Bears track appearing out of nowhere every couple of months until that time comes. If you’re looking for other jams new and old, you should probably follow Solar Bears on Twitter because they often post links to the best songs ever.

For only having two tracks out, Wild Belle, the Chicago brother and sister duo of Natalie and Elliot Bergman, has certainly made quite an impression to everyone at SXSW. Maybe I’m just ready for summer but “Keep You” perfectly combines that Jamaican rock-steady with cushioned dream-pop and I can literally listen to this again and again. All I know is I want more! Wild Belle will be touring with Tennis starting this month so check them out in a town near you.

With each new Dive song I hear, I’m drawn in more and more. Maybe there’s just something about guitars that are just the perfect amount of hazy and tunes that never stop for a break and just keep pushing forward. It’s 11AM as I write this, and it’s hit me that Dive might be my new favorite morning music. Feel like this could be the perfect soundtrack for breakfast any day ever, but can also transition into some nice evening music when the volume is cranked up a bit. I think their debut Oshin might be right up near the top of my most anticipated albums list. Check out some more tunes and an interview with Zachary Cole Smith, the man behind Dive, at Pitchfork.

Daedelus is a G among Gs. In fact, he’s one of the monome OGs. I was lucky enough to interview him at last year’s Movement Fest right here in Detroit and found that he’s also one of the nicest people ever, in addition to making and mixing the bitchingest tunes on either side of the Mason Dixon Line. I don’t know where that is, for the record. He just made this song for Mixmag and I think it’s a little bit hot.

Soft Care – Girls

It was just last night that I found myself wondering when I would get some awesome lo-fi music in 2012. Granted, I’ve been super awful at keeping up with anything this year (well, partially by choice, because I just can’t), but I felt like last year had so much great lo-fi music (a la Puro Instinct, John Maus, etc) and I haven’t found much of that this year. And then I listened to this song that I favorited on Twitter earlier to remind me to listen to it later and it was kinda just what I wanted at this moment in time. It’s the first single from LA’s Devon Geyer aka Soft Care and he’s about to release his first LP Quiet Courage which I think I will be listening to when I can. Check out Soft Care’s tumblr or download the track for free on their Bandcamp page.

Well it’s been some time since we’ve done one of these, hasn’t it? The main reason was that I haven’t gone to a proper show since the Tycho show back on January 11. Might be the longest stretch I’ve gone in several years. After my discovery that Chairlift is awesome a few months back, I was more than excited to see them live and Nite Jewel opening up was a welcome bonus. Shoutout to the girl standing next to me while we waited for Chairlift to start who reprimanded me for checking my Twitter because she wanted to experience real life. We actually became friends after that even though she was super something undetermined, aka not sober in one way or another.

The show was fantastic and just as danceable as I’d hoped for. Accidentally got a little drunk, which led to me only taking pictures of the babes who lead both of the bands I saw that night in the inadequate lighting that is the Magic Stick. I also experienced a miserable Friday at work due to the dranks and the fact that I clearly can’t stay out late on school nights anymore. But I’m glad I stayed til the end because the very last song of the night was my favoritest Chairlift song “Amanaemonesia”. So listen to some songs by these bands and look at a few pictures of Caroline Polachek and Ramona Gonzalez (babes). Let’s do this more often, k?

Oh, and these are my friends.

I hadn’t given much of my attention to the works of S. Carey, probably most notably known as the drummer of the Bon Iver gang of rabble rousers, but it turns out he’s got a good thing going all on his own. He’s releasing the Hoyas EP on May 8 and we’ve gotten to hear the opening track “Two Angles”, a slower number that becomes more and more atmospheric and consequently beautiful as it goes on. Does anyone love surprise horns in a song more than I do? I doubt it.

Since we hold ourselves to a high standard of diversity, let’s move from Australian psych rock to UK beats. After hearing “Snow Drift Love”, a new track from Toby Ridler’s Becoming Real out of South London, it’s not much of a surprise to learn that he opened some shows for SBTRKT late last year. The chopped up “I think of you” vocals play nicely over the frantic but controlled beats they’re paired with. Becoming Real will release Solar Dreams/Neon Decay this May
