Don’t know if you’ve picked up on it lately, but I’ve been getting increasingly lazy with talking about the songs I post. I guess it’s because I’ve been running out of things to say about them, or that I found myself saying the same thing about every song all the time. Plus, I think it’s important for the songs to speak for themselves so that your opinion is not tainted before you even give it a listen. And you better believe that I’m pretty good at tainting people’s opinions on a lot of things. That being said, here’s a great jam that arrived to me via inbox. Smokey Robotic‘s tune was given a great remix treatment by Vancouver’sData Romance (a rare male/female electronic duo, pictured above) in a pretty big way. The original had all the synth and beats to make a good tune on its own, but it wasn’t quite ready to wedge its way into any serious dance party playlists until now. The Miike Snow “Animal”-esque chord progression really comes into its own after the Data Romance treatment, and the newly designed chorus makes it impossible to stand still.

And just to sweeten up the pot even more for me personally, as soon as this great tune finished playing, the next song in my itunes began – the fantastic Breakbot remix of “When We Were Young”, which was immediately followed by the timeless “Mother Lover”. Wins all around.

It seems like just yesterday that Aeroplane, the now one man show that has been such a big part of my musical year in so many ways, so memorably remixed Breakbot‘s “Baby I’m Yours” (you can check it out here if you missed it). But in fact, it was 5 months ago. This is both a testament to how legit that remix was and to the fact that I have no sense of anything time-related. And now, it seems that Thibaut Berland has returned the favor and himself remixed Aeroplane as part of the newest single “Without Lies” featuring Sky Ferreira on vocals. And based on past history, I will typically automatically enjoy anything with the words “Breakbot” or “Aeroplane” in the title, so when you’ve got both of them, it’s really a Guaransheed. A French/Belgian explosion of awesome, so to speak. Breakbot totally discofunkified this song to the max, and a little discofunk goes a long way with me.

Can you believe it’s already July? More importantly, can you believe it’s already July and I just got my first tan (read:extreme sunburn)? It’s pretty embarrassing, but luckily June was a great month so we don’t feel THAT bad about it. We released the second of (hopefully) many mixtapes to come, the Summer Drive Mixtape (know it, live it, love it), and while it didnt have all the hype of the Blogwave Summer Mixtape, it definitely had all the energy and summer sizzle. And I got to see tons of acts I hadn’t seen before, many of which are on the precipice of hugeness. And now I present to you your favorite tracks from the month of June. And I think you all did a pretty good job of loving some awesome tracks the most.

Breakbot – Baby I’m Yours (Aeroplane Remix)

Let’s see if we can make July the raddest month EVER

If you recall from my “We Can’t Fly” post from a few weeks back, I am a huge fan of just about every Aeroplane remix created since the dawn of man. But damn, this remix of Breakbot‘s “Baby I’m Yours” is pretty near the top of my list. If you wanted Aeroplane to bring it, just take a listen and you will quickly realize that it’s already been broughten. Sure, I posted a youtube version of this track last week. But let’s be honest, it’s really just too good not to be posted in a proper 6.5 minutes of heat mp3 format.

With all of the ridiculously fantastic remixes we’ve heard from Belgian duo Aeroplane (not to mention their highly delectable Coachella set that I was fortunate enough to witness in person), it’s hard to believe that they are just releasing their first LP this September. But, alas, it’s true, and we are pretty excited about it. In preparation, the duo is releasing the first single “We Can’t Fly” on July 5. On top of that, they’ve done a KILLER Breakbot remix which I believe it out now on Beatport, but you can hear it in the youtube video below (it’s worth it).

Wasn’t that fun? I thought you might like it. Anyway, if Aeroplane is coming to a town near you, go see them. You just have to.

Today we bring you a pretty great summer tune by Jamaica, a relatively new French band (big surprise, a French band I like) made up of Flo Lyonnet and Antoine Hilaire. Besides the fact that they are French, their album was also produced by Xavier de Rosnay, who you might know from a little band called Justice. Not sure if you’ve heard of them. You should probably check them out if you haven’t.

The first single is “I Think I Like U 2″ and it could get some heavy airplay during these warmer months. The video is pretty entertaining too. It’s sort of entitled “The Rise and Fall of Jamaica” and chronicles their rise to fame and subsequent descent into obscurity, which is pretty funny for a brand new band. It does get a little psychedelic near the end too.

And check out this great Breakbot remix, which is a pretty subtle remix, but a nice spin on the original. And I kind of like this version even better than the original, but both are pretty legit.
