As another month goes by, let’s take another moment to look at the posts that you liked the most this past month. They are half new and half old songs. But the top two were new, so that’s a good sign at least. Below you will find the links to the original posts as well as a stream of them, unless we’ve already been asked to remove said song. In that case, you get NOTHING! You LOSE! Good DAY sir!!!! Do you like knowing the top posts from last month? Did they match your personal list of favorite posts from last month that you keep in the notes section of your blackberry, iphone, or other smart mobile device? Or do you keep them in a word document on your computer? Or are they just a .txt file?
1. The Hood Internet – Decalogue
2. MGMT – Someone’s Missing
3. Yuksek – So Down
4. The Smiths – This Charming Man
5. CocoRosie – By Your Side
Here’s to a fantastic and warm April, full of concerts and Coachella.

I think that CocoRosie is another one of those polarizing groups that you either love or you hate. I was at first a little bit on the fence, but my opinion of them was sealed once I looked up sisters Sierra and Bianca Casady and was so fascinated by these two ladies. From the way they were raised, moving all over the place all the time, to their schooling, neither of them finishing because their mother believed art was more important than education, to the way they lost touch with each other for a few years, ending with one sister surprising the other by showing up at her doorstep in France, you can just tell that these kids have experienced life and I think it really shows in their music. Their debut album “La maison de mon rêve” was written and (I think?) recorded immediately after this reunion in the bathroom of said apartment and was later picked up by Touch and Go Records. Just a pretty cool story.
I think I first heard of them from my friend Nadia who sent me a few songs and “By Your Side” came on while shuffling my tunes, and it was sort of great. I think I’ve before referenced the completely legitimate and non-annoying use of speeding up vocals to create that chipmunk effect and it just adds such a sincere and beautiful element to this tale of a woman presumably blinded by love, willing to do whatever it takes to be the perfect wife without complaining, no matter what. And those electronically altered vocals, along with the scratchy slightly out of tune piano, along with the bluesy vocals of the sisters, along with the R&B beat is a wicked combination.

Oh, and don’t forget to check out the….interesting…album art for their upcoming album “Grey Oceans” dropping on May 11.

by the time you read this post, i will be well on my way to my first bonnaroo ever. i have kind of no idea what to expect, and its been a long time since ive done any sort of camping so im nervous and excited. im traveling and camping with a bunch of seasoned pros though, so im sure all will be well. the disappointing part is that out of all of the bands that i wanted to see the most, they seem to all be playing at the same time as another band i wanted to see the most. so there will be difficult decisions to be made but im going to make those decisions on the fly. itll be based on the mood im in at that moment, so ill always be seeing the perfect band for whatever mood im in. sounds like a pretty fail proof system if you ask me.
here at dailybeatz, we would like to give you a little taste of the bonnaroo experience, which is why the next four days will feature songs by artists playing each day of the festival. today we will be driving most of the day and will likely miss most of the bands that are playing. but todays track is “sleepyhead” by passion pit, who will be playing at 11 15 tonight. if we make it there by then were going to be cutting it real close, so hopefully we get there in time. this isnt even really my favorite passion pit song, but i wanted to post it anyway because i think overall its an extremely well produced song. all of the pieces work together in perfect harmony. its also a very good use of what i like to refer to as the chipmunk voice. you know what im talking about — when a regular track is sped way up to sound like the chipmunks. you may all remember the chipmunk voice from circa 2002 when it was a part of just about every rap song that made its way to the radio. it was kind of really overused and annoying, but every once in a while the chipmunk voice actually feels right in a song and adds a lot to it. this track is one great example. the other example is a cocorosie song that ill probably be posting at some point in the future so keep an eye out for that. this track was on passion pits “chunk of change” ep and it was so good that they decided to put it on “manners”, their full length debut that was released in just that past few weeks. for anyone keeping track, “the reeling” from the aforementioned full length release also made my scant summer/running playlist this year and was very nearly the topic of todays post. but the great production of sleepyhead won out in the end.
