It’s been a while since we last talked about Theophilus London but just today he dropped his new mixtape entitled “I Want You”. And I just finished listening to it for the first time. And I gotta say, it’s HOT. I think he covers just about every style imaginable in these 19 tracks, so there is definitely something for everyone. There are lots of great samples throughout, the most unexpected being, in my opinion, Jack Penate. Others I can remember off the top of my head were a FANTASTIC Ellie Goulding “Starry Eyed” remix (which sort of has a disco vibe going on and which goes directly into a great 80s sound in the subsequent track), Discovery, Vampire Weekend, and oh so many more. And in case you missed it in the title, this bad boy is FREE. Just go to the Theophilus London blog and download the zip file. I was a fan of Mr. London before I listened to this, but he just jumped up a few more notches with this great display of versatility. And for your listening pleasure, here’s that remix I mentioned above, but it would really behoove all of you to listen to the whole mixtape. I’m not exactly sure what to name this track, so I’m just going to call it exactly what its called on the album.

In today’s tough economic times, you can’t really afford not to download this free mixtape. It’s definitely great bang for the buck, even if there were a charge.

One of the UKs biggest up and coming acts has got to be Ellie Goulding. Her music is poppy, but in a really non-annoying way, and it lends itself so well to lots of fantastic remixes. We already heard the dirty Kids at the Bar remix of “Under the Sheets” and today we’re bringing you another great remix courtesy of Monsieur Adi who you may remember from my post on his remix of “Place for Us” by Reni Lane.

As expected, Monsieur Adi gives this song a whole new sound that’s a little bit trance and a lot of heavy beats. I typically don’t go crazy over remixes that so completely rework a song, but Monsieur Adi has mastered that art. And the best part is, it never sounds like he’s trying to hard to create something brand new out of something that already exists. The only other thing I can tell you about this remix is to just wait for it. Can’t wait to see what else he comes up with in the future.

kids at the bar

its friday. i have to apologize, because while i fully stand behind every song i put up here, i sort of set a precedent for beat-tastic music on fridays, and while the past few fridays have featured great songs, they havent always been beat-tastic. so im going back to the way things used to be in a big way today. ellie goulding is a british artist that is currently recording her first album but is already making big waves with her first single, you guessed it, “under the sheets”. while her stuff so far is mostly of the upbeat ilkage ripe for remixing, shes got a softer side too, as evidenced by the lovely cover of bon ivers “wolves” that can be found on her myspace (even if she did remove the big climax at the end of the song).

i apologize for anyone listening to this early in the morning at work, as it may not be appropriate for the time of day. because it kind of makes me want to, to quote a friend, fist pump my face off. and we have oklahoma citys kids at the bar to thank for the fist pump inspiration. it totally reminds me of the many hours spent this august in the perrys area at lollapalooza. be sure to check out their myspace page for some more remixes, including one of empire of the suns walking on a dream, the very first track ever to be featured here on dailybeatz many moons (6 months) ago.
