Well ladies and gents, our friend Gigamesh, who you may remember from the classic hits Lykke Li – Little Bit (Gigamesh Remix) and Radiohead – Everything in its Right Place (Gigamesh Remix), among so many others, is in the process of making the move from Minneapolis to Miami, and what better way to commemorate such a huge life change than with a mixtape? And lucky for us, he’s offered up his Moving Cities mixtape to us to share with all of our loyal readers! It starts out a little playful (remember folks, this mixtape is all about moving out and moving on), but it doesn’t take long before it spirals into a funky, soulful, disco-infused party with an old school flavor that cannot be denied. And what’s even more, we even get a taste of “Back Again”, an unreleased Gigamesh track!

Give it a listen below, and if you dig it as much as I do, you can download it by clicking right here!

And here’s the full tracklist, just in case:

[Intro: So Long, Farewell]
Faze Action – Moving Cities
Midnight Magic – Beam Me Up (Jacques Renault Remix)
Gigamesh – Back Again [unreleased track]
Gigamesh – It’s So Intense
Jimmy Edgar – Hot, Raw, Sex
Midnight Star – Midas Touch (Bassapella)
Social Disco Club – Acid Town
Liquid Liquid – Optimo
Voltage – All Night (Azari & III Remix)
Marching Band – Another Day (Gigamesh Remix)
Estate – Dancing Time
MC Shy-D – Shake It (Gigamesh Edit)
Barry White – Change (Gigamesh Edit)

And if you still haven’t gotten your Gigamesh fix, check out this CLASSIXX remix he put together a while back. Pretty fantastic.

After providing us with so many top notch remixes of other people’s music, Andre Anjos of RAC has taken the reigns on an original musical project of his own. He’s just released the soundtrack to the movie Holy Rollers, a new film starring Jesse Eisenberg (who you may remember from “Zombieland”) and Jason Bartha (who you may remember from “The Hangover”) dealing with the issues of blind faith told through the story of Hasidic drug mules in NYC in the 1990s. Definitely a very intriguing premise for a film if you ask me! To stay true to the 1990s theme, he even made sure only to use instruments available in the 1990s (and he specifically calls out that no virtual synths were used). You can listen to the whole soundtrack here on his website.

In addition to the soundtrack, he’s also released a single of the fantastic track “If You Forget Me (feat. Liset Alea)” along with a couple of great remixes from Gigamesh, True Blue and Blue Satellite. You can hear all the tracks from the single here.

And if you like the album and/or single and want to purchase them, RAC has been kind enough to give our readers a 20% discount! When you purchase, just enter “dailybeatz” in the promo code box for your 20% discount. And, you should probably go see the movie too.

Here’s the Blue Satellite remix. Love it.

And just because we love the works of RAC so much, here’s the much loved stripped down remix of “Home” by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. Yes, it’s a few months old, and yes, many have heard it already. But I’ve never posted it. So here it is.

happy dance party friday. since the office is closed on monday, there is even more reason to dance today. on that note, not one, but TWO remixes of one of my favorite tunes, “little bit” by the lovely lykke li. the original version of this song was actually the fourth song ever posted here on dailybeatz way back in may, can you believe it? and i heard a pretty cool remix at a show a few months back and have been meaning to look around for it, and just remembered today to find it. while i have no idea if i found the remix i was looking for, i did find some cool versions by gigamesh (whose excellent radiohead remix has been posted here before) and cansei de ser sexy, more commonly known as CSS.

the gigamesh remix has much of the same style as their radiohead remix. that is, the song stays pretty much untouched, but there are really nice beats laid over the song, and a song that was already excellent, though not necessarily danceable, is now danceable, and you dont feel like youve lost what you originally loved about the song. as for the css version, the music from the original has been almost completely stripped out of the song and its given a fresh and sometimes dirty electronic treatment. their take is much more of a departure from the original, but its so bright and fun that you dont even care, especially around the chorus, and its got the same CSS sound that so many of us know and love. im curious to see which version the dailybeatz readers prefer, so let me know. and in case you were wondering, i still have a mad crush on lykke li.

sorry for the abundance of radiohead lately, but this is a gigamesh remix so it doesnt really count, right? plus i thought we unofficially declared fridays dance party fridays, so i kinda had to throw a remix in there anyway. i was a little cautious of this because everything in its right place is one of my favorite radiohead songs, and as ive mentioned before, i tend to be a little weary of dance remixes to begin with.

my biggest concern with this song was how they were going to handle the “yesterday i woke up sucking a lemon” part of the song, with its uneven time signature. well, i will say that part does sound pretty weird still and sounds a tiny bit not right to me, but its totally worth it to get to the 2:07 mark, when you realize that this could have really been a dance song if it wanted to be from the start. its also worth listening to this whole song to hear the funky little bass line that comes in just after the 3:00 mark and everything that comes after it. pretty nice touch in the first 15 seconds where you can hear a little sample of “packd like sardines in a crushd tin box”, the opening track to kid a’s brother album amnesiac. im usually not a big fan of anyone touching radiohead songs for any reason, but this remix was definitely not a letdown, and that is a good thing. and whats not to like about a danceable version of a song i love that is anything but danceable in its original state? what do you think? danceable or desecration?
