dailybeatz top 20 albums of 2009

the time has come. i know the anticipation has been unbearable, and i apologize for that. i was originally going to post this on monday but i was so excited i just couldnt wait. my basic criteria for my top albums are based on how much i listened to that album on repeat after i heard it for the first time. because isnt that really the best sign of how much you like an album? i was going to do a best songs of 2009 list too, but i post my favorite songs every day. i felt guilty narrowing down to 10 (and frankly couldnt pick) so ive bumped it up to the top 20, along with a track from each album (which may or may not have been posted here before). …read more and hear the song…

handsome furs – evangeline

today a track from one of my favorite duos of the year, handsome furs, and features another pretty uncommon chick name. this time, its evangeline. the only person i can think of with this name is evangeline lilly. and she makes me think of another chick name….damn gina! the husband and wife duo just has such a simple method that produces such a great sound. and after seeing them perform live, i can tell that they would be awesome to party with, always a plus. …read more and hear the song…

lollapalooza day 1 – depeche mode – precious

after much waiting (it seem like i bought my tickets six months ago, which may have actually been the case), lollapalooza is finally upon us! well, tomorrow at least. since ill probably be out of pocket (god bless corporate lingo) for the next 9 days or so, and since ive eliminated the sunday posts for the sake of my own sanity, im going to feature one artist from each day of the festival for the next three days, each a day ahead of when they are actually performing. saturday throwback will also be thrown out the window this week in order to accomodate. the very first feature this week is depeche mode, the group i am most excited to see this weekend by far. …read more and hear the song…

michael jackson tribute part 2 with the hood internet

before we get into todays tribute to MJ song, i just want to talk about how excited i am to see the handsome furs tonight at the detroit cityfest. formerly known as the tastefest, this event takes place every year centered around the 4th of july in detroits new center area and combines tons of delicious restaurants with tons of music stages. the best part is, all the music is free, and they usually draw some pretty big names. in the past, ive seen broken social scene and common. i think the year in between, spoon was playing and the new pornographers played another year as well but i missed them both. it should be wicked awesome. …read more and hear the song…

another post about furs

today was the official start of summer for me. we went canoeing down the huron river for several hours and it was my first canoe trip of the summer. combine this with my first use this year of the bathing suit, and it is officially summer people. so i decided to bring you another track from my famous summer playlist. this began as 6 or 7 songs that sounded like summer to me and i was supposed to be adding new tunes. but i didnt do that, so its still only 6 or 7 tracks, but this ones on there. it also became my running playlist because i decided this was the summer that i was gonna start running on a regular basis. it went great for the first few weeks, but just like my summer playlist, it fell to the wayside. despite that, i did give this playlist a good 10 runs or so, and all the songs were high energy and fast-tempoed (is that a word? it looks pretty funny). …read more and hear the song…
