Even though I’ve always liked hip-hop, I’ve never considered myself a huge hip-hop fan for whatever reason. But despite all of that, I’ve always been a major fan of Outkast (me and everyone else, right?). In fact, one of my unexpected favorite moments from this years Pitchfork Festival was during the Big Boi set when he started performing Outkast hits among his own and I really realized how much I loved their tunes. I think it was partially surprise because for some reason it had never crossed my mind that Big Boi would be performing Outkast songs (I’m a little slow sometimes). His album Sir Lucious Left Foot…The Son of Chico Dusty, released just a few months back, has been a pretty big hit in my opinion. But for whatever reason, this great track didn’t make the cut. It really makes me wonder sometimes. But “Lookin For Ya”, featuring Sleepy Brown and other-half-of-Outkast Andre 3000, is still a jam worthy of being heard, thanks to the power of the internet. Makes me want to listen to the whole Outkast discography for the rest of the day.

top february tracks

hey y’all, first off let me thank our friend The Music Ninja for his help in cleaning up and organizing and coolifying our sidebar. My mind is much more at ease now that the chaos has subsided. Now, I thought it would be fun each month to just recap the top posts from the previous month. A “best of” of sorts, in case you haven’t been following along, so you can see what everyone else enjoyed so much the month before. I was able to determine this using a series of top-secret complicated algorithms that you probably wouldn’t understand anyway. You can listen to each track below or click to view the original post. Here’s the list!

1. Coeur de Pirate – Comme Des Enfants (Le Matos Andy Carmichael Remix)

2. Outkast – Spottieottiedopaliscious

3. Miike Snow – Billie Holiday

4. Massive Attack – Paradise Circus (Gui Boratto Remix)

5. Yeasayer – Love Me Girl

Pretty solid list. Maybe next month I can up the numbers a little for the past month’s top posts, since we now post even more stellar tunes for your listening pleasure. Here’s to a great March (even though it is almost halfway over).

This Saturday throwback is perhaps one of the hottest Outkast songs of ALL TIME. I don’t think there’s too much I can say about Outkast that everyone doesn’t already know, and if you don’t know then you must have been living under a rock. A really big rock. “Spottieottiedopaliscious” made the short list for inclusion in January’s Hip-Hop week, and while it didn’t make the cut, I knew it would show up at some point here. Even from the first notes, this one just screams “bumpin’ and grindin’”, and then we are treated to a rare brass riff that likely helped to get trumpet players laid all over the country, if not the world. And clocking in at just over 7 minutes, there’s lots of time to get into a groove. And there isn’t much that can top the 1-2 punch of Andre 3000 and Big Boi. Enjoy, if you dare.
