neon indian – deadbeat summer

did anyone guess what the final non saturday throwback song of summer song week would be? i think there was really no other logical choice for tons of reasons, the most obvious being that my entire week has consisted of enjoying a deadbeat summer. i think its only fair since the weather has been so awful this year that it doesnt even really feel like weve had a summer at all. someone earlier in the week told me that this is the second coolest summer weve had on record where i live and i kind of believe them. but hopefully by now my skin has been fried to a nice golden brown because my ability to tan is one of my only good features, so it would really be a waste if i didnt get to utilize it this year.
the track of course is “deadbeat summer” by neon indian. im almost ashamed to admit that i didnt much care for this song until the fourth or fifth time that i heard it. normally im immediately drawn to anything involving summer. and im almost always drawn to lo-fi pop, so my resistance to liking this song is just getting curiouser and curiouser. but this is a total summer jam anyway, and hopefully we will be rockin it out this week at the cabin. i just did 2 minutes of research on neon indian and discovered that its a duo of musician alan palomo of vega and video artist alicia scardetta so hopefully there are some weird and wild music videos out there for all of us to watch. im looking forward to hearing the rest of the psychic chasms ep because the few tracks ive heard so far have been awesome, and because psychic chasms is an excellent name for anything. stay tuned tomorrow where we will have perhaps the best saturday throwback in the history of life.
