Oh Land is the musical project of the beautiful and talented Nanna Øland Fabricius by way of Copenhagen, Denmark. I’m talking straight up classic beauty too. And this classic beauty is the perfect compliment to her music, which is slightly electronic at times, but all with an underlying je ne sais quoi that makes it feel timeless and fresh. And leave it to Yuksek to take this timeless tune and give it the slow burn treatment, bending time signatures and melodies, but in the end making sure that Nanna’s clean and pure voice remains the star of the show. I’m going to be keeping an eye on this gal. Partially because I think she’s a babe, but more importantly because I can see her going places.

As another month goes by, let’s take another moment to look at the posts that you liked the most this past month. They are half new and half old songs. But the top two were new, so that’s a good sign at least. Below you will find the links to the original posts as well as a stream of them, unless we’ve already been asked to remove said song. In that case, you get NOTHING! You LOSE! Good DAY sir!!!! Do you like knowing the top posts from last month? Did they match your personal list of favorite posts from last month that you keep in the notes section of your blackberry, iphone, or other smart mobile device? Or do you keep them in a word document on your computer? Or are they just a .txt file?

yuksek – so down

Another disco jam, this time from France’s Yuksek. Although the word means “high” in Turkish, Pierre-Alexandre Busson (unmistakably French) claims he just liked the way the word sounded, or rather how it didn’t sound like everything else in the electronic world. But what is in a name anyway? This fellow has put out some pretty great music of his own alongside some nice remixes for some pretty high profile artists, which you can conveniently find on his website.

This track, “So Down”, has been around for a while, but it’s still tres super. It features Chromeo, so it automatically has some pretty solid street cred, but one the song really begins after the harsh and abrupt intro, the funky disco keys hold up all on their own, enough to get even the piano movers to stop what they’re doing and dance to the beat. And it’s a pretty confident song lyrically, too, perhaps bordering on arrogant. “I’ve seen you walk in front of me/That body’s makin’ it hard to breathe/Better run and tell the guy you’re seein’/When he’s gone I’m doin’ it better.” But, really, isn’t that “confidence” sort of what electronic music is all about?
